Running Away to Jersey, Part 5
East Point Lighthouse

I think I’d make a pretty good lighthouse keeper. In fact, on my bucket list: staying overnight at one and/or being a temporary keeper. Till then, enjoy these vivid shots of New Jersey’s East Point Lighthouse in Heislerville, New Jersey, which is not available for overnight stays.

Built in 1849 and recently undergoing a restoration, the charming lighthouse had fallen under some hard times in its long history. Decommissioned in 1941 after World War II, it sat unkept until 1971 when it was partially destroyed by arson. In 2017 the long-planned interior and exterior restoration by the Maurice River Historical Society was finally completed.

Goodbye, Guardian of the sea
