Remember (Walking in the Sand)

Oh no. Oh no. Oh no no no no no.

Ok, enough of The Shangri-Las, though they’re one of the absolute coolest girl groups from the sixties. It was a late lunch on the beach. Staten Island’s FDR Boardwalk & Beach was at a healthy buzz upon our arrival. After crawling through dank spaces, the air and view was beyond refreshing.

It was a small pleasure walking under the boardwalk. People make love down here, I thought, if one believes The Drifters. Ok, clearly I know my oldies! Thanks, Dad!

“Boots on the ground,” sitting on my butt.

My feet barely indenting the sand. I was gimping around the whole day after a serious injury to my toe getting out of the shower. Classic!

I’ve got t-shirts older than you. This, one of my early alteration attempts… with a sewing machine. Before this I used a stapler and then covered the staples with electrical tape. This, before they made shirts meant for a female frame. Ah, if only you can pay the rent with “cool” …or “C.A.R. days,” as I’ve been saying lately.

Knuckles, mad because I ate my falafel too neatly and he had to scraps to lick up.

Said falafel from Lebanese Eatery. It was their first day open since the COVID outbreak. It was delicious. Thankfully, falafel is easy to find and an easy vegan option.

I don’t know if we have enough fries.

And with that, our Staten Island excursion was complete. But not without new plans set… provided no symptoms emerge in the following days. Stay healthy, New York.
