Random About Rochester

With a friend in town, we had to see some sites and we had to eat well!

So first, Red Fern–with wide ranging dishes and sweet treats, it’s a vegan go-to. I took a risk on the special, the po’ boy made with battered soy curls. It was tasty but its open faced form made it difficult to enjoy the components in one bite.

We walked about the city with the goal of getting to High Falls, the pretty waterfall in the middle of downtown.

Also near High Falls, Genesee Brewing Company. It’s all the things you want a brewery to be in a large space with plenty, including outside–where the view of the Falls are a great backdrop. We got a flight, but in the end it had to be Genny Lite.

Onward to Swan Dive for some eats and more libations. It was good but not as great as I had remembered from my last visit.

My virgin cocktail, the Lil’ Pink.

A way to oily pie that still hit the spot. Unpictured is the vegan Caesar Salad, which hit so different than it had before.

For breakfast the following day, it had to be the best avocado toast in town: Melo Coffee & Kitchen. It is truly spectacular. Fresh cherry tomatoes, radish, charred lemon tahini, and cilantro on delicious soft sourdough. It is so good that it makes the off-putting vibes from some of the kitchen staff less noticeable.

Next a stop at one of my favorite places to get delivery from: Zemeta Ethiopian Restaurant. Piles of vegan friendly flavor–like four preparations of lentils, tons of vegetables… and heavenly injera. Great service too!

I’ll end this with a delectable sweet treat that has been blowing my mind, the chocolate sorbet at Hedonist Ice Cream. I suppose one would imagine that a chocolatier might understand what makes a great chocolate sorbet… tonsss of chocolate.

Well that was all the time we had to eat… this time. The list of Rochester’s vegan gems is long!
