Parks & Rec: Brooklyn
Calvert Vaux Park
June 13, 2020
The longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its construction, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge’s anchorages dig into 115 feet of the Earth. That excavated soil and sand helped to create Brooklyn’s Calvert Vaux Park, the latest park in my exploration series. With a nice view of the bridge from about the Gravesend Bay, the park was a hoot to explore… with decaying water craft, quiet seclusion and thriving wild life.
It was also a lovely and easy bike ride on the Belt Parkway Promenade…
Tons of horseshoe crabs swimming around… I was happy about that because I have only ever seen them dead and baking on the sand.
Fish in my posts two days in a row
The boat graveyard parts were my favorite of course. That’s Coney Island across the way… and I was biking all the way there!
This needs an octopus about it…
Made it to Coney Island easily. Now that I know the way, I’ll soon be back. (Also two braids and a dress for my bike ride. Being single means no one telling you you’re dressed like an idiot.)
Idiot or not, I biked pretty bad ass today.
And found a really neat park I had never even heard of…
