Overnight in Memphis, Tennessee

Where in the world am I? With a workplace up in the sky, sometimes I forget the where and the when. It’s an occupational hazard…

But today, I’m in Memphis! And here are some pictures from my quick stay. Like other cities in Tennessee, Memphis is a musical place: Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Booker T. Jones, Aretha Franklin, etc etc all hailed from Memphis. The city takes pride in its heritage, which you must admit is mind-blowingly impressive.

Music notes as we wait for the hotel shuttle

A vegan cookie (yay!) from the Doubletree, whose thing it is to greet hotel patrons with a fresh baked cookie. I’m so glad I get to now *partake* with a cookie from Partake.

Even though I had the best tofu scramble in my cooler, I got another from Cafe Eclectic. Sometimes I want to be served hot food and not stand in the hotel lobby in sweatpants using the microwave.

The legendary Sun Studio

Historic Beale Street, where all the Blues joints are and lots of day drinking too. It was very reminiscent of New Orleans’ French Quarter with a little bit of sleazy Old Vegas feel… as I was getting a lot of attention being on my own and walking through. As if I only serve a singular purpose… as if!

I loved all the neon

I’m sure it’s hopping at night

But I wouldn’t hang around to find out. Maybe next time! Goodnight, Memphis πŸ™‚
