One π, Under Stars
April 22, 2020
With the New Moon and the remnants of the Lyrids Meteor Shower playing out, I knew my ceiling was not going to cut it tonight. I headed to the darkest place that is sorta nearby, Montauk Point: The End of Long Island. A great destination of Earth Day. It was a clear night, yes, but the amount of light pollution surrounding the tip of the Island invaded in every direction. Considering the trek and my scary hike in pitch darkness in a very creepy place (see here), I was less than enthused with the pictures in the end. But there were many lessons in my defeat… Here are ones that show the process of my learning on the job the overwhelming features of my newish camera base.
First, a goodbye to the sun and a hello to the ocean.
Now me fumbling with settings. Will report on the settings and add to Idiot’s Guide once I review them! Can’t go to Utah without getting this right!
No and No.
Ok, that’s better
Even better… but.. THAT LIGHT!
The Lyrids! But again… that light! That’s Connecticut’s fault.
I went to the lighthouse but was so very windy. Like I need more sand in my sandbag… Oh yeah! The TSA agent in Los Angeles was highly suspicious of my sandbag in my luggage and had to see what all that mysterious stuff was. When I opened my luggage in New York sand was all over everything. I needed that sand!
Back at the radar. I wanted this creepy thing with the Milky Way, but it was so cold and so light out despite being midnight. Ho hum.
I liked how the plane looked like a laser that radar was shooting Pew pew. Have you ever typed “pew pew” in an iMessage. Watch what happens…
There’s my car and what I think might be the Milky Way rising. Maybe? It was just way too bright.
Goodnight Mamma Earth and beyond.
