Old Friends at Rock Creek Cemetery

I knew as I settled into part-time living in Washington DC that a visit to Rock Creek Cemetery wouldn’t be far off.  Having spent some time searching its grounds years ago, I spent this visit not looking for something new but saying high to those monuments That had taken my breath away.  Like seeing old friends.

The haunting Mary Magladan is my favorite.  She has that perfect pattern of tarnished patina enhancing her look.

This curly head guy so hidden away. I thought of him what I thought the last time: 1) Boy, I wish they hadn’t removed that gorgeous patina by treating the “copper” 2) Would it be untoward to sit on his lap? 3) Who is he?

And speaking of “who is he,” who is this guy?

This mausoleum is guarded by four fierce ladies… I have my favorites.

And time

Boy, you’re going to carry that weight a long time

This is a new headstone that caught my eye… its color and sweet face, of course I had to investigate why this young man was so early laid to rest.  He was murdered in a mall.  He was at the mall helping a man with disabilities. How horrid.
