NYC Island Hopping:
Abandoned Governors Island
August 8, 2020

With its service recently reinstated, I booked a ferry reservation some weeks back hoping to explore Governors Island‘s historical district with ease on my bike. So across the Buttermilk Channel I go, excited to conquer its 172 acres. In it: abandoned buildings (though the best are off limits), a couple of vegan options, gorgeous city views, and a bit more peace, quiet and park than in other parts of New York City. Also, some pretty neat looking glamping tents.

Art.

Let’s go to the theater! I really wanted to get in.

But I would not fit through the box office window…

Sea shells! The Billion Oyster Project is building oyster habitats to help restore the shores of New York’s harbors.. It’s a neat initiative I learned about as an elementary teacher.

My Ethiopian lunch from Makina…

Time to take two boats back to Bay Ridge.
