New Vegan Eats at Citi Field
July 22, 2017
[New for 2018 season! Please see most recent report on vegan offerings at Citi Field here.]
At Citi Field again… and in the rain again. I’ve gone to 3 games this season and it has rained each time! The Mets have also won each time, too, so I won’t complain about the pattern. Anyhow, this game was completely packed. No, it is not their standings, but a giveaway that has brought many out of the woodwork. There were so many people that I had to waited a half hour to get the veggie dog I ordered! Topped with the usual, I also threw on a bunch of leftover veggies from the summer rolls. Yes, I carry Ziplocs of veggies sometimes.
So I went food exploring during a lull in the game. We noticed some fans with containers of arancini from Arancini Bros. I got excited because I knew that Arancini Bros. had several vegan arancini options. (I blogged about them here.) Turns out they were part of the new food offerings in the Promenade Club… along with the much buzzed-about Dō, which serves scoops of cookie dough which also offers a vegan option. The bad news: neither of these vegan options are available at Citi Field. Phooey! But! Baohaus (blogged about here) has their vegan bao available at Citi Field!
The Uncle Jesse Bao is breaded and deep-fried tofu served with a great sauce and seasoning.
I really love bao, mostly because of the soft white bun and how much damn flavor is packed within. The seasoning was a Taiwanese red sugar… and it sent the flavor profile over the moon.
I will definitely be getting this option again.
