Mushroom Hunt at Eternal Flame Falls

I once knew a guy who knew all about mushrooms. It was just one of a collection of deep knowledge bases he had, though completely impractical in his daily life. He was far ahead of his time but cemented in an overall rejection of the now. He was so much better than now, though the now I am referring to is long gone. (Lord knows what he’d think of this now.) He’s gone now, but in the mushrooms I hear his characteristic voice and his shy exploration of my face when I “wasn’t looking.” Oh, the still frames and video clips of memory and how the mind flips them about unexpectedly.

Back to the mushrooms! So I have no idea what any of these mushrooms are, but I love seeing them: damp, spongey opportunistic growth. This day I hunted mushrooms, while the kids–salamanders in the running streams along the trail.

I thought this looked like that chalk filler stuff
