Mostly Food in Early March in Brooklyn

It’s hard to cook a meal when you’re really damn hungry. This might be a metaphor for other things too, but let’s focus on the literal. All kinds a food can be prepared and delivered to your doorstep with a few lazy clicks. And though I really want to get a handle on my budget these days, the convenience is difficult to pass up.

Here is Japanese from Shobu Sushi & Grill. I get cravings for avocado rolls, draped with pieces of pickled ginger with crumbles of wasabi. Such things I cannot make in my own kitchen. And dumplings, I can’t make those either. Well, I could–but not with as much skill and certainly not in the 25 minutes it’d take to be delivered.

Another day without making my food. But here now is Palestinian food from Ayat, just down the block from me in Bay Ridge. I am so grateful to be so close to some of the best authentic Middle Eastern food in New York City. I got the Vegan Platter.

The Vegan Platter is… Falafel (you know), Zahir and Beitenjan (fried cauliflower and eggplant drizzled with tahini and pomegranate molasses), Wara Dawali (Grape leaves stuffed with a blend of rice, parsley, tomatoes, and onions) along with Mujadara rice, Filistini salad (Finely chopped Mediterranean cucumbers, tomatoes, and parsley dressed with lemon and olive oil) and a glorious hummus.

Are you bored of my chocolate chip cookies yet? Here’s another batch!

For work people. Along with some leftover Peeps and some Eddie’s specially delivered from Florida.

Ok, I am finally making food! I didn’t realize how much I needed a rainy Saturday to get myself in order! I made Vegan Richa‘s Chickpea Spinach Stew with Lentil and Quinoa. Turkish chickpeas because I live 2 minutes away from the best Turkish-owned corner store.

Felt good taking care of myself through cooking.

And any day you get to blend up a bunch of vibrant flavorful vegetables is a good one.

The stew uh, stewing. I put saffron in it. Fancy!

Kept sneaking spoonfuls. I have a problem with that!

And an accompaniment–tempeh marinated with my favorite.
