Messy Hearts
February 10, 2019
Did you know my sugar cookie game is subpar? Yeah. But messily decorated treats are adorable in a special way. They say, “I am not all that good at this, but I did it anyway, because:” love. And in that way these cookies for my students are perfect.
The first flaw was the flour I used. I subbed all-purpose for a gluten-free blend 1:1 instead of finding a new gluten-free recipe. Even after the rolled out dough setting overnight in the fridge, it still spread awkwardly, obscuring the heart shapes.
Notice how sharp before baking…
There are the heart-y blobs afterwards.
And then the icing process is terrible mostly because of my very shaky hands. Here, my heart and my flaws: eat ’em up.
No, a small child did not invade my kitchen. This is my best work.
That one kind of looks good!

Two hearts
They look messy, like all matters of the heart.
