Longing For A Taste of Autumn: Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

And bam! I’m back home ready to partake in autumn baking. The huge pumpkin I processed last autumn gave me tons of puree… and it sat in the freezer waiting patiently. Today I would put some to use. But first a thaw and a reduction, cooking down much of the water that is part of homemade puree.

The thawed puree

Now cooked down for use. I would make three recipes using the puree while I was home, but still about 2 and 1/2 gallons remain.

Letting the yeast activate… apparently it was very hungry!

The pumpkin spiced dough before rising…

After first proof

Rolled out and ready

I should have let the filling harden up a bit but we wanted to go to bed. I would do the second proof in the fridge overnight.

Here is my fatal error… I wanted to use this autumnally hued pan. But look how crowded they are before second proof! This would impact baking and I have learned my lesson.

After second proof in the morning

Baked

And iced…

Pools of icing forming where they are slightly underbaked because of that crowding

But they look delicious

Fall… in my mouth

Sampling one… so good! Oh the pumpkin possibilities…
