Long Island’s First All-Vegan, All-Organic
Organic Corner, Massapequa
April 16, 2021
Organic Corner is a new all-vegan spot on Long Island offering some next level vegan options that I was really excited to try. Next level meaning no Beyond or Impossible… housemade food… you know I go on about this all the time. I was happy to chat with the waitstaff about how refreshing their menu was and how eateries like this should be celebrated for upholding a discerning standard of quality.
On the wonderful server’s recommendation, we got The Sweet Roll sushi roll. It’s mixed veggies, avocado and mango surrounded by Spirulina cauliflower rice and wrapped in seaweed. I’d never seen cauliflower rice in sushi before, but I hope I do again! Though they were a bit unwieldy considering sushi is traditionally meant to be eaten in one bite, I really didn’t want them to be smaller. They were so flavor-packed, hitting a variety of wonderful notes including the almighty umami.
Eating with my eyes first
Poutine! I haven’t had it since I was in Montreal… and it’s one of those dishes I love to order if available. Firstly, it’s potatoes. It’s also not easily available (well, except in Montreal) and it’s got that dirty eat feeling that I don’t often get to enjoy having been vegan for almost 25 years now. Just feast your eyes on that housemade gravy and cheese sauce…
The Dirty Beet Burger is also on the “Dirty” part of the menu. It’s sauteed onions and pepper, guacamole, and spicy cheese sauce on to their housemade beet patty. Could have used a bit more seasoning in the patty, but a very scrumptious bite.
The gluten-free cashew-based Mac and Cheese was the most delicious bite we enjoyed. There is pure magic in this cheese sauce. I think a larger portion of this small plate would be well appreciated… at least by me. It is a simple dish, but it was simply perfect.
Ah of course, dessert. I was busting at the seams but we just had to… This is a delicate brownie that was made with black bean, topped with Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and drizzled chocolate sauce. I only had a bite, but it was comparable to the very high quality of all of the eats we sampled. We were blown away.
