Last Day Stuff.
Day 6 in Texas

Zucchini Kill, You Really Had To Be There

Zucchini Kill is likely thee best name for a vegan bakery. I was so excited about checking it out that I bought some merch, just like going to shows back in the day.  A shirt, stickers, a button… and of course a vegan baked treat.  As you may imagine, the names of their treats are as clever as their bakery name.  I got the “Rebel Swrrrl,”  you know—like Rebel Girl.  Wait, maybe you don’t know that Zucchini Kill is a play on the 90’s Riot Grrrl band Bikini Kill, who I loved (say like David Brent).  If you don’t know who David Brent is, gosh you should enroll in my class “All Things Cool That I Will Continue to Reference Whenever Opportunity Arises.”  Get in the know, man.  Saying “man” is my throwback to the days the patriarchy was more deeply ingrained within us all.  It’s irony.  Man.

All-vegan. All-awesome.

One of my childhood favorites… a Swiss Roll… Ok, I guess it’s more like a Yodel.

Some Things Last A Long Time

And on the “All Things Cool That I Will Continue to Reference Whenever Opportunity Arises”-tip, Daniel Johnston.  A 90’s icon, his influence is honored in Austin.  To me he is the epitome of the emotional excess that marked the 90’s, so potent and raw with self-exploration.  The emotional K-hole that we fell in. Again, some things last a long time…

At the airport. Vegan is is so easy in Austin, I had an amazing lunch within the terminal. I got this rectangular bowl from The Peached Tortilla. A cauliflower bowl with some well-needed greens.

Also, these two things from the poignant exhibit Words/Matter: Latin American Art and Language at the Blanton.

Finally, when I was in the air and I got to see two boroughs holding hands.

Thank you, travel gods. I look forward to worshipping you again soon. But now, regularly scheduled daily living.
