Jet Set Tiki Bar πŸ—ΏπŸ¦©βœˆοΈ
Newburgh, New York

I have to go to all tiki bars… and I’ve been to a lot. Many of them historic landmarks in their own right: The Tonga Room in San Francisco, Frankie’s Tiki Room in Las Vegas, Kowloon in Massachusetts, Tiki Ti and Tonga Hut in Los Angeles, Foundation in Milwaukee (not blogged about), as well as Otto’s Shrunken Head literal decades ago, and often, as I sowed my wicked oats as a youngin’ living close to the L train. I say all this because as I age I find it more and more commonplace that others presume I am a superficial idiot as those are the normed traits of the current generation. But I am old, cut from a cloth that is the grandest existential cross-section. A bygone era and mold. Ah, but that is a rant for another blog post.

After some exploring I put Jet Set Tiki Bar on our itinerary.

There are some great spaces and the drinks hit hard. So hard that I didn’t realize that my half of the bill’s gratuity was way more than it should be. Plus they add 4% to non-cash tender. But look at these cups!!

I love that there are vegan options, but they need some fine-tuning. The Brussels sprouts and cauliflower hit hard, like the drinks. The sauce was too dominant to taste the many amazing ingredients in the Brussels dish and the deliciously crispy cauliflower screamed for some creamy coolness for balance. I had the leftovers on coconut rice and added peanuts and some sweetness and it was a lot more delicious.

The Miso Eggplant, also very saucy

Overall, a good stop for drinks and nibbles.
