Into the Green
New River Gorge National Park
July 20, 2021
After staying two nights in a hotel, I had a massive neck ache from terrible pillows. But waking up each morning in my tent, I felt euphoric. Perhaps it was how isolated my campground was, The Brooklyn Campground (teehee) near the Cunard River Access area of New River Gorge National Park; perhaps it was the dizzying winding road in dark and the lantern-lit walk through the other empty campsites it required to access it. Just me… in the green. My nights within the green were wonderful, free of charge and the perfect starting point for exploring the area.
That’s the river behind my tent. At night I heard the rapids, the birds and… the freight train that passes through a couple of times through the night. That was a bit of a surprise.
Green River
The misty mountain fog made the stars impossible to see. And that moon…
I’m pretty chipper in the morning. Grumpy morning people are the worst.
Here is one of the freight trains. Imagine my surprise when this woke me up. I just had to record it.
I know it sounds vegan-cheesey but I am proud of myself. For the freedom and intrepidness I embrace. π₯° (That’s my self-love.) What have you done to show yourself love today?
