Into the Desert Wilderness🌵
Petrified Forest National Park

Petrified Forest National Park would offer me so much beauty on my short trip. Though I had made this assumption before arriving, I was not prepared to see the range of gorgeousness. I want to return to get out of the car more comfortably, because on this particular visit the temperatures were below freezing considering the wind chills–wind that had it difficult to even open the car door. Like I say often… I’ll be back.

Painted Desert

The Painted Desert region stretches from the east end of Grand Canyon National Park to Petrified Forest National Park in the southeast. It’s known for its vibrant badlands. When I visited it was dusted with snow.

The Teepees

Newspaper Rock

I get real excited about petroglyphs while in the Arizona/New Mexico area. The Newspaper Rock at Petrified Forest National Park is only viewed through some telescopes from above. But luckily I had my new telephoto lens to zoom right in there.

A handsome raven that wanted food

Blue Mesa

The most gorgeous of the badlands, the Blue Mesa Scenic Loop is not to be missed. When it is nicer out I will march down into them. It was just way too windy and I was ill-prepared.

Crystal Forest

This portion of the park contains the petrified logs, colorful and awe-inspiring.

At the cafe at Visitor Center, a Navajo taco–veganized! I was happy they knew the word “vegan.”
