Indiana Dunes National Park: Day & Night

There aren’t many National Parks east of the Mississippi River. We don’t have the magnificent land formations born of the Colorado Plateau. But we got the the Great Lakes. Indiana Dunes National Park is right next to the gorgeous Lake Michigan. It would be my day and night destination as I booked a camping reservation.

The beautiful view of the lake in the distance.

Getting my steps and stairs in

My campsite. Not near the lake and not very private. For future reference, campsite 3 on the Mather loop in the Dunewood Campground is not the best decision.

Why is sleeping on the ground so comfortable to me? A full night of “grounding”

The clouds invade my want to star shoot. I should have known given how much Lake Ontario has messed up my star plans while at home. So I sat at my picnic table… joined briefly by a scavenging racoon… I waited, eventually just setting up the camera to shoot while I want to sleep.

The night had periods of clearing. I star trailed them into these composite shots.

I am really missing the Milky Way.
