Homemade Face Mask

Something you probably don’t know about the shape of my head–it does not take accessories well. Headbands don’t stay on my head, bandanas or scarves can’t stay in place if tied around it… Something about the slope from my Occipital bone to the nape of my neck (I had to look up what bone that was so don’t be impressed…) I have a small feminine neck… and a big head. So in order adhere to face covering guidelines and not to pay an exorbitant price or have to wait until May for delivery, I knew I had to get going with making my own face mask.

Since my sewing machine was now easily accessible and this lovely lady helped me thread my bobbin and needle, I was able to follow this very easy tutorial. Unfortunately all my fabric, and the majority of my craft supplies, are in the storage closet at my school, so I had to take a dinner napkin and pair it with the only fabric I have… the night sky.

Now that she is threaded, maybe I’ll sew more. As you will soon see, I am a pretty sloppy sewer.

My grandmother, on the other hand, was an amazing sewer. She was all kinds of crafty! And I still have a lot of her supplies in my craft room, like this magnifying glass that I needed to thread my needle.

Doin’ it

My wacky stitching! 🀣 Next time I need to put on a shoe to more easily control the foot pedal. I was like a first time driver.

Once I put it right side in, much better!

Unfortunately I had no elastic at home either… this was actually the only trim I had–from the mermaid stash. It’s pretty… but the mask isn’t as snug as I wanted considering.

But geez, I am a productive quarantinee. I’m slaying “to-dos.” And there are more tomorrow.
