Dia de Los Muertos
November 3, 2018
The first batch of cupcakes for this year’s kiddos.ย I start simple with a chocolate cupcake and vanilla buttercream for our Dia de Los Muertos celebration…
The classroom spread. I go to Don Paco Panaderia in Sunset Park every year for the pan de muerto.ย And they never bat an eyelash with my terrible pronunciation–and they give a great price for teachers.ย It is important to note that I never inquired about whether the bakery breads are made vegan, or veganizable, as the celebration is for the kids and I want the food to be traditional.ย Out of curiosity, I will ask next time.
The of course vegan cupcakes I made. The unusually warm day had my buttercream melting quickly unfortunately…
El Pan
Our ofrendaย at its beginning stages.ย I was grossed out to find a modest mouse had snuck into my storage bin finding a leftover sugar skull to munch upon in the year my materials had been stored.ย So I lost a lot of altar decorations as I had to dispose of the bin that had become the mouse’s bathroom and coffin. R.I.P.
May your loved ones follow the petals and stand by you tonight.ย What a pleasing thought. Happy Day of the Dead.ย
