Darth Vader at Washington National Cathedral

In honor of James Earl Jones, I returned to Washington National Cathedral to locate the 7th story Darth Vader grotesque, a part of the Gothic architecture since 1986 following a contest announced in National Geographic For Kids. The gargoyle was designed by a 13 year old boy from Nebraska and it came in 3rd place in the competition. Other winning designs are feature about the cathedral’s spires.

Inside and out are Old World glorious, even more because my visit was during choir practice. Also of note, the Space Window, which contains moon rock collected during the Apollo 11 mission and the gallery on the 7th floor–currently exhibiting Kelly Latimore’s “Look For the Helpers,” a Mr. Rogers philosophy.

Next time I will visit the crypt!
