Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve in Idaho {Daytime}

This land used to be lava… oozing, moving, drying and once again holding life. Having briefly stopped here at Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve in 2016, I wanted to shoot the stars at this wondrous landscape. But first, a visit during the sunshine.

The colors of time

Lava cave

Such gorgeous scenery

We were about to trek up Inferno ConeΒ — a steep ascent

But the views were worth it

Iridescent “Moon rock”

Lichen, like in the rural cemeteries

We did not apply for a cave permit to hike down any of the caves, but we vowed to “next time.”
