Cielo Rojo Restaurant, Takoma Park, Maryland

Cielo Rojo came about when two men met while working at Gracias Madre, a well known California vegan eatery. Here in Takoma Park they have created a gorgeous space with a separate vegan menu. I walked the 25 minutes or so from my space in DC to enjoy their offerings. I walked back fully satisfied.

Strawberry Chia aquas frescas. I really wanted a cocktail but I can be called into duty at any time today. Next time…

The vegan menu

The mushroom taco on their dreamy housemade tortilla. Not much for presentation and it felt like it was missing something but it was really darn good.

Similarly, the quesadilla. It cried out for some color variance or garnish, but like the taco it was very good. I love the offerings but both seemed incomplete as I know there is a slew of vegetable components utilized in the menu.

The tortillas are outstanding

The best was their vegan flan, which I had me walking there with enthusiasm. It was perfection. Creamy, flavorful, not overly sweet with a slightly bitter sauce that made it sing. Well worth it!

I would definitely return and try their other vegan items.
