Capturing the Light /
Midtown Vegan Eats

Sometimes I say to myself, “I canโ€™t wait to see what youโ€™ll create.” I know that sounds super geeky, but I get excited for me. I get excited to see what will creep out of hiding, something that needed a form to speak, something that would move my hand with its strength. [This is very similar to when I lay down to bed sometimes and I think, โ€œI canโ€™t wait to see what Iโ€™m going to think about.โ€] But today I begin a mission to improve my skills at one of my favorite modes of creative expression: photography. With Spring Break plans involving a foray into astrophotography in one of the darkest skies in the contiguous 48 states, I needed to get to know my camera better and develop my night photography skills before I feel it justified to purchase a more sophisticated lens… or rent one.

So I enrolled in some photography classes to learn about the technical side of the art. Class 1 was a very productive 3 hours and I am excited to give myself some assignments; I’m excited to see what I’ll create. I played a little with motion, which I had never done before.

Then I was in Midtown, which has this wanna-be Cloud Gate thing now. Also, this is a K Mart commercial.

But lunch: some vegan stuff near Penn Station. Cinnamon Snail at The Pennsy had an healthy line that I enjoyed seeing. I got the Peking Tempeh Tots, tamarind plum reduction roasted tempeh, wasabi mayo, and black sesame gomashio and scallions on top of tater tots. A delicious few bites with some temperature issues, as one might expect at a food court.

Sweets I didn’t buy but which made me salivate.

Because I wanted a Sprinkles cupcake, which was just a few steps from the Pennsy. Then I rode the subway all the way to Brooklyn staring at it. This picture is entitled “Self Control.”

At home, eating my cupcake.
