The Abandoned Rock-A-Hoola Waterpark

You would think that a waterpark in the Mojave Desert might have staying power–and it did from 1962 to 2002. During that time the renditions of the space, named Lake Dolores (after the manmade lake named after the owner’s wife), Rock–A–Hoola Waterpark (a version of the waterpark that blared Oldies from the 1950’s and 1960’s), and Discovery Waterpark through the years, utilized the 273 acre manmade lake fed by the area’s underground springs. Its rich history, both while active and after its closing, include ten 150-foot waterslides, a 200 foot zip line, a 20 foot high diving board, a lazy river, an all-night rave in 1999, an appearance in a Mtv reality show in 2008 and skate film in 2012, street art from the NYC-based TrustoCorp in 2013, and various other location appearance in television shows. Today, in 2021, I came to become part of its history. Clearly many more have also done so.
