Blessed Are The Intrepid, Day 17:
Drive

Do you know how much I dislike the I-95? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s the worse kind of roadtrip driving. Direct but uninteresting, it eliminates half the magic of the road. Though South of the Border, an original gangster roadside attraction, has expanded a great deal since my last visit (eleven years ago!) and that was a kinda fun stop, the day got me hours north… but made me pledge to spend tomorrow, my last day on the road, off the beaten path. So here, South of the Border weirdness and a vegan food stop in Petersburg, Virginia… before a b-line to Norfolk, off the blasted I-95.

Dunch in Local Vibe Cafe, which has fantastic service and vegan options a-plenty. Peep the kombucha in the background. You know that a place is good if they offer kombucha! This is my BBQ Bliss wrap with their “vibe” rice, BBQ tofu, black beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, red onions, lemon tahini sauce and I added avocado.

They even have vegan desserts! This is a sweet potato pie topped with an aquafaba meringue.

How cool in the middle of… nowhere? I’m not sure. I didn’t stay in town long as my room looked unsavory with lots of day mayor traffic around it. So I headed east to get a better start for tomorrow’s adventure.
