Birthdaze: Halloween

As a kid, I loved that my birthday was near Halloween.  It was my favorite holiday.. and still is.  So with birthday/Halloween season upon me, I forced my teacher friends to join me for opening night of the new Halloween at Alamo Drafthouse. Because I will be calling the shots for the rest of the month.. when November comes along I’ll be far more flexible.

Two Lyfts passing in the night, I had some time to admire the rug at Alamo and the dirty red and green Freddy sweater, classic horror movie nods, before ordering at my seat from their vegan menu…

Some good offerings that I wouldn’t be able to to photograph well in the movie theater.

But I did it anyway. I realized I’m a “lights on” gal when it comes to eating.  Because you eat with your eyes.  And me, maybe more so.  This was the avocado toast.  Delish!

The Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower was also very good. But again, it’s difficult to dine in the theater… and the servers running all about during the film is a bit of a distraction.  I’m going to kick it old school next time and keep dinner and a movie separate. The movie stunk unfortunately. As a huge fan of the classic first Halloween, I appreciated some of the nods to the original but ultimately, it was not good.  Why are movies so horrible these days?

Also on the birthday tip, a surprise left on my desk this morning.  I can’t even recall the last time someone baked for me!  So this was a very special cake and her first ever attempt at vegan baking. ❤️

And it was very tasty!  The non-vegan mens in the surrounding classrooms agreed.

Ah, my birthday always makes me feel gratitude more than anything else.  Gratitude with a side of lemon cake… that’ll do.
