Birthdaze: A Beautiful Pisces Rising Cake

Though I love to bake, I like to use my birthday to sample cakes by other vegan bakers. This year my folks got me a beautiful cake from Pisces Rising after I found them, or her really, via Instagram. And lucky me, Pisces Rising just started taking custom orders. After rejoicing that the busy baker could secure my custom cake order, I picked it up at Riverdel, the vegan cheese shop in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
Ok, I grabbed a breakfast sandwich while I was there too! This is the McDel. Very satisfying.
Laura Varley, Pisces Rising’s baker, is well known for veganizing some of the whimsical treats at the very popular Momofuku Milk Bar. If you want to try the deliciousness, her treats can be found at Brooklyn’s Vegan Shop Up and the monthly Vegan Market at the Market Hotel in Bushwick. But for now, feast your eyes on this gorgeous cake: a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. My favorite combination… but add some funfetti, and it’s deep nostalgia too.
