Because: Pretty

Dragon Fruit, or Pitaya, is usually a bit expensive. But my neighborhood produce shop Garden Hills, my go-to for quick, safe grocery shopping during this pandemic–and often my only human contact during the day, had a bunch for two-for $1! So I bought some. Mostly because alien egg-looking fruit is so pretty–on the outside but much more important, pretty on the inside.

The contrasts! I am eating with my eyes. However, they don’t taste like much in actuality. They have a kiwi texture–but are neither sweet nor tart. They don’t taste bad… but let’s just say that their appearance kind of promise a different flavor experience.

But perfectly ripe mango is just absolute perfection. So pairing with the dragon fruit creates a nice texture contrast to mango’s smooth, fibrous flesh. Also dragon fruit skin makes a beautiful serving vessel. On the bottom, some chia pudding I made.

I guess I should mention that the garlic I had cut on the cutting board earlier in the day was not washed off properly. My fruit had the essence of garlic. #Italianproblems
