Back at Harlem Valley State Hospital,
Abandoned on Wheeler Road

While in town to explore the cemeteries, I attempted to get back into the hospital grounds, now Olivet University. After finding maps of the property, I saw there was so much I had yet to explore. But there was an SUV at the gate that asked me to stop. The man in the unmarked SUV let me know I couldn’t enter, that the students were in quarantine because of the virus. He was a kind old man who seemed to welcome the (unmasked) smile of a stranger, and so I did what he asked. Though I tried another access point, the eastern end of the campus on Hutchinson Road. But it seems this road is a bit of a bust if you’re with a vehicle, like its Hutchinson’s western entrance. In sight were what seemed to be more cottages. Shoot, okay–I’m just going to show you this map I notated. As you can see the farm I discovered on my last visit is part of Harlem Valley State Hospital Property! So I headed back there as I knew access would not be an issue. The public golf course and thoroughfare had social distanced walkers upon it. And now a social distancing photographer.

To follow are some shots of the cottages, as well as the farm exterior and interior across the street. I was pleased to photograph these parts of the property with relative ease. Of course, there’s still so much more to see…

Won’t you open a window sometime…

The farm was the best.

Goodbye for now Harlem Valley State Hospital Property. I think I’ll take a break from you. I will need to bring another person to explore more and I don’t want to ask anyone to compromise their well-being now… Sit tight.
