Are Ya Ready Boots? …Vegan Cowboy Boots
October 11, 2010
My quest for vegan cowboy boots started a few years back. In those years, I have worn this pair (see left) to the ground… while keeping my eye on thrift store offerings. After all, it was at a thrift store in Greenville, South Carolina where I found them: in my size, not overly-ornate and 100% free of leather. Of course I knew this pair to be “accidentally” vegan. They were a cheap pair of boots and that’s why they weren’t leather. And after time, their plastic began peeling away. I needed to reinforce the toe with duct tape often. Though the duct tape proved to be quite the conversation starter, I needed to face the facts. A proper lady of her early thirties need not continue to carry out the slovenly rag doll sensibilities of her late teens/early twenties. So I had to search further. Extending my search to new boots on various online retail markets, the vegan cowboy boots I saw were a sheeny plastic-y man-made mess… and overpriced. I began to give up hope.
Then I found Volatile‘s Denver boot and Rocket Dog‘s canvas cowboy boot, Sheriff. They’re the best looking vegan cowboy boots I’ve found. They’ve got great shape, a sturdy heel and a pleasing authentic style. Let autumn begin! I got my boots.
Next up, the search for a classy and stylish vegan coat that fits well, is warm enough and isn’t an arm & a leg. Any tips?
