Abandoned Port of the Islands Hotel
In The Florida Everglades
January 3, 2021

The history of the Port of the Islands Hotel, not to be confused with the Port of the Islands Everglades Adventure Resort less than a mile away, is a shady one. Born of questionable business practices, environmental destruction, slumlords, financial troubles and rumors of the hotel, and a nearby airstrip, being utilized by South American drug cartels (source), it had a very short run though operational years within its timeline are pretty unclear. And now, demolition has begun, as you will see below. With a Collier County police camera perched on the property, we explored about the resort and an adjacent structure… likely the last opportunity to do so.

Exploring in a dress made it easy to climb when I needed to

Now with a huge gash

I can just make out the pool that had not met health standards for operation for the last several years of the hotel’s operation.

The hotel had very pretty detailing. A shame to see such gorgeous Spanish tile roofing laid to waste…

Creepy mattress on the ground, likely dumped from elsewhere, was still very bouncy
Goodbye Port of the Islands Hotel. It’s likely time for yet another condo community. Oh Florida…
