It is here! The end of my Vegan Fried Chicken Battle! Having started this showdown in June of 2019, I am so pleased to have finally arrived at this final battle with the true best of the bests facing off. From the start, these two contenders have been consistently impressive. Now it would be time for them to put up their dukes and for me to choose a winner!

This battle would be a little different than my previous. Loving both of these sandwiches so much, I was very concerned about having a clear and quantifiable way to determine the winner. So I created a scorecard with all of my considerations along with a ranking scale of 1 through 5. This would allow me to grade each sandwich based on its own merit. A grade for the first sandwich would be set prior to my visit to its contender. Additionally the posted scorecards will replace my going on and on–I’ve been going on since June.

I also would let each contender know that I was coming in the hopes that no one would win by chance, and, if need be, variables could be adjusted to ensure I receive a sandwich that is their best. (Then I could use the same scorecard for my Los Angeles mini-showdown, where I would only be able to visit each contender once!) Other than that, all else is the same, me and my high standards. Without further ado… the Championship Battle of the V.V. Vegan Fried Chicken Showdown.

🥊 Final Battle Contender: Superiority Burger

There it is, the money shot of contender 1: Superiority Burger‘s Tofu Fried Tofu (the T.F.T.) sandwich.

What has been hard to convey is just how small this sandwich is. This time, for scale I have my phone right next to it. It is pretty much the same length as an iPhone (8? I don’t even know!)

This tofu’s briny marinade impacted crunch and texture scores. It was quite wet.

This is the brine that oozed out bite after bite.

In the end, Superiority Burger nabs 91 out of 105 based on the scorecard below.

And contender 2: Renegades of Sunset‘s Fried Chicken Sandwich. Looking like a queen. Did I just give this vegan chicken sandwich a gender? Yes, yes I did. Let us bask for a little bit…

I kept turning it because the crag was looking so good at every angle.

Looking closer, you see the care in the seitan and breading. Since seitan is made from scratch I think it is easier to have your way with it… flava!

And with that last bite, fates were sealed. After tallying Renegades of Sunset‘s score, a bittersweet moment of finality. It’s all over.
