2010 So Far: Gluttony

There’s something about 1/1 that motivates change. Yes, I subscribe to that New Years philosophy of renewal and growth, mostly because I appreciate the year as a unit of measurement, appreciate a set span of time to classify with a numerical code, appreciate some kind of end-point. I remain awed by 2009, what I managed to cram inside its 365 days. My life exactly one year ago seems way, way further in the past.

So 2010… I’m gonna need my energy if I am to press on and out-do ’09. So I began the year at Bone Shakers for all-you-can-eat vegan pancakes, one of their amazing sandwich creations and hearty seasoned potato wedges with chipotle aioli dipping sauce. Their flapjacks, light and fluffy, demolished the obligatory NYE hangover with golden deliciousness. And though there were 5 of us total feasting, we shared the cakes with no raised eye brows from the staff.

I needed more savory sustenance, however, if I was to feed my nutrient starved body. I got the Magnus sandwich, their housemade veggie patty, tempeh bacon, chipotle mayo, l, t and sprouts on warm and fresh rosemary foccacia, along with some greens.

Potatoes. The ultimate hangover cure.

Extending good cheer in the p.m., it was a Take an Omni to Red Bamboo evening.  Said omni feasted on her soulful bourbon chicken chunks while I gathered more data for my forthcoming expansive report on New York City’s veggie burgers. A taste of Vegan Treats‘ mocha cake was also a must.
