π§ββοΈ Mermaid Preparation 1: Inspiration & Inventory {2019}
February 3, 2019
I know, I know. June is pretty far away. But the groundhogs agree that Spring is coming fast. With the mission of craft utilization, I began the mermaid process: getting inspired, making some preliminary decisions, and taking inventory.
And besides, sometimes a savvy costume crafter has to account for loooong shipping waits from Asia, the land of plentiful and cheap costume weirdness. Yes, it was huge internet giants AliExpress… and Amazon that would have the cheap costume canvases for my mermaid purposes. Some of the searches that fueled my inspiration: “belly dancing costume” for low waisted asymmetrical skirts, “festival wear” or “rave wear” for ridiculous holographic and iridescent accent pieces, “cosplay wig” for the best wig styles, “fish tail” or “mermaid tail” in women’s skirts and dresses, obvy… and “sea shells” and “starfish,” double-obvy.
Since I have already made a beautiful sea shell bra top, I want to make a starfish top this year. And since I have a very reliable long green sequin fish tail skirt, this year I will use a sequined midi-pencil skirt, giving it some fins. The iridescent theme is just an idea at this point. I am gathering fuel for a huge mermaid undertaking another year.
So I have more than enough to work with this year… already. So taking inventory is important before buying mermaid things willy-nilly. I have so much that I haven’t used that I purchased in previous years. This year, I hope to utilize it all.
Another important decision is what bra to use. If you’re a busty babe, support is key. So a bra is always way better to use than some bathing suit top. It also helps if the cup is lined so to protect that delicate skin. With a trip to the free-to-teachers arts warehouse next week, I need to grab a mannequin or dress form to aid in crafting this year… instead of using oranges in the cups as I hot glue gun away.
Next time you see these materials, dear blog, they will be stuck to me with glue.
Lots to work with from my last haul from the warehouse. I usually craft with my best mermaid, so that will also help utilize these goodies and aid in craft room storage organization.
{3 Days Pass.} I tried to resist but got a ton of more mermaid materials at the arts warehouse. Oopsy.
I also got my mannequin form.
Here’s to a long lead up to mermaiding and what a difference forethought can make. π π‘ π¦ π π¦ π
