The Great Sort {2019}

Mermaid Crafting starts… now! And I have so much to work with; I’m kind of overwhelmed by choice. So my step towards being a mermaid in June, a massive sort. Piles serve as mermaid to-do’s.

My first 2019 mermaid craft would be a top to sell. With so many materials, a passion for creating beautiful mermaid tops and a need for more discretionary income, I thought I would share the love. There is market for these tops on Etsy.

Next would be my own top–a star fish top I plan to make very intricate. Much to my mermaid partner’s frustration, I am mostly interested in authentic mermaid… and not so much interpretative themes. A mermaid semi-purist? An appreciation of the sea, its life and its color palette inspire my mermaid choices. And the interplay of man as my mermaid always makes use of the fishing lures she collects. These beautiful shells came from Sandy Hook, New Jersey. And they have been staring at me in anticipation since I picked them up last month.

Of course, Like Mikey had to set aside gold for One-eyed Willy, I have to set aside plenty of goodies for my very best mer-friend. This will be our third year doing the parade together! She can get whatever she wants from any pile… besides mine. 😉

If time allows, I also want to make a full mermaid costume to sell. This undertaking would utilize a ton of time and materials. But I’ve had some great ideas about how to use these vintage fabrics in a very wild mermaid get-up… for some other mermaid.

Finally, if time allows, another mermaid bra to sell using this deep-plunge bra which I could never wear for support reasons. I’m actually really excited about the ideas I have for this bra… so I am putting it at the end as motivation.

Let’s do this! Well, maybe after Spring Break.

Mermaid throwback and inspiration:
