βππBut Once A Year… πͺπ¦π
December 26, 2018
Doing Christmas-y things at any other time of year is just weird. So as the season passes us by, here is a purge of ‘once a year’isms. Like these shiny color pops in my apartment.
Along with my Ambrosia, I brought some holiday cookies to my family’s. And since I only use this serving tray once a year, here it is for your viewing pleasure. Some divine chocolate chip cookies, a second attempt at this recipe. They didn’t really spread while baking for some reason, so they have this unbelievable bakery-like texture, like a cream cheese cookie. Works for me!
There is also once a year wardrobe, like my cardinal dress. (And I guess I should make the bed?) As an enjoyer of thematic styles and costumes, I have tons of once a year wardrobe pieces.
It dawned upon me, while working with my students on an endangered species project, that I have had interactions with a lot of different animals. I dug up this picture of an encounter with a reindeer in Alaska as it is seasonally appropriate and once a year-y. What is that, velvet? Why, yes. This is a velvet-horned reindeer.
And once a year viewing! The classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. This big misfit watched the misfit toys with her misfits at school. MistfitsΒ³!
Chinese food on Christmas is more of a Jewish tradition, but I partake. After always being on ‘sweet stuff’ duty, my Christmas dinner is never extravagant. This once a year, a dish that harkens me back to the early years of my veganness: Bean curd with broccoli and garlic sauce. It still hits the spot too.
